Your new company

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to lead our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) rating methodology research and development efforts, with a focus on the Chinese market. As the ESG Rating Methodology Research and Development Lead, you will be responsible for designing, enhancing, and validating the methodologies used to assess the ESG performance of companies and entities across various industries, particularly within the context of the Chinese regulatory environment and market dynamics. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure our ESG ratings are accurate, transparent, and aligned with industry best practices while catering to the specific needs and preferences of stakeholders in China.

Your new role

• Lead the design and development of local scale ESG rating methodologies that incorporate best practices, industry standards, and stakeholder feedback, with a focus on the Chinese market.
• Continuously enhance existing methodologies to reflect evolving ESG trends, regulatory requirements, and stakeholder expectations in this region.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to gather insights and ensure alignment with market needs, particularly within the context of China.
• Conduct thorough research and analysis on ESG factors, including environmental impact, social responsibility, and corporate governance practices, with a focus on Chinese companies and entities.
• Stay abreast of emerging ESG trends, regulations, and reporting frameworks in this region to inform methodology development and implementation.
• Utilise quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques to identify key drivers of ESG performance and assess their materiality within this market.
• Establish robust validation processes to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and consistency of ESG ratings, with a specific focus on validating methodologies for this market.
• Provide leadership and guidance to a team of researchers and analysts responsible for supporting ESG methodology development and validation, with a focus on building expertise in this market.
  

What you'll need to succeed

• Extensive experience (minimum 5-7 years) in ESG research, ratings, or related fields, with a strong understanding of ESG factors and their impact on business performance.

• Demonstrated expertise in quantitative analysis, statistical modelling, and research methodologies, with proficiency in data analysis tools and software (e.g., R, Python, SQL).

• Proven track record of designing and implementing ESG rating methodologies, preferably within a research, consulting, or financial services environment.

• In-depth knowledge of the Chinese regulatory environment, corporate governance practices, and sustainability initiatives, with a proven ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes.

• Experience working in or closely with Chinese companies, financial institutions, or government agencies on ESG-related initiatives, sustainability reporting, or responsible investing.
