Hays Education
January - March 2012
CHINA Hotspots
Senior leadership candidates will be in demand with new international schools and centres starting up. Senior leaders who have experience in school start ups especially on the international circuit will be highly sought.
Science teachers, in particular physics, as well as maths and economics teachers will be in demand as these subjects are extremely popular with Chinese students. Also needed are teachers qualified to teach English as a second language. This demand is driven by the large investment from well known and market leading companies opening up new centres in the ESL market as well as Business Schools.
Overcoming skills shortages
Several employers are starting their recruitment drives earlier as well as opening up part time positions as needed to fill emergency roles.
The coming quarter
We anticipate a rise in the number of new jobs being created through the ESL and Business School market. For candidates seeking positions in these areas we would advise them to go to www.hays.cn for more details and available openings.
Employer trends
We are seeing a number of schools willing to accept and hire more Chinese overseas returnees who can bring international experience to the role. While recruitment drives are occurring earlier, we do not anticipate further changes in trends until the start of the academic new year in September 2012.
Candidate trends
Due to the economic uncertainty in the West at the moment, we are seeing a slight increase in candidates from Europe and the US, however demand for qualified teachers is still more than supply.
